Charleston, South Carolina Music Guide
SCIWAY's guide to Charleston music and musicians is divided into four sections. The first is devoted to Charleston's professional and recreational orchestras, symphonies, choirs, and quartets. In short, it covers classical music in Charleston. The second includes non-profits and other organizations that seek to encourage musical education and enjoyment. The third list compiles Charleston bands and singers who either play shows in clubs and concerts or produce CDs; these bands focus on rock, blues, bluegrass, country, etc. The fourth list spotlights wedding and party bands and is an excellent resource for Charleston-area parties, wedding ceremonies, festivals, and corporate functions.
Charleston SC Symphonies, Choirs & Classical Music
- Chamber Music Charleston
This Charleston non-profit is composed of musicians dedicated to giving chamber music concerts and educational performances in hopes of stimulating the audience, with a special focus upon children.
- Charleston Barbershop Chorus
The 40-odd members of this choir sing together as one chorus, preserving and encouraging four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop tradition, playing "sing outs" for just about any occasion.
- Charleston Community Band
The Charleston Community Band is comprised of about 75 amateur musicians from the tri-county area who perform on average 15 concerts per year, providing an opportunity for adults to perform concert band music after completing their school years.
- Charleston Gospel Choir
An off-shoot of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, this Charleston-based gospel choir is comprised of volunteer singers who perform at events throughout the year including Spoleto, MOJA, and Martin Luther King Day.
- Charleston Men's Chorus
Charleston's all-male choral group is best known for its annual Christmas Concert at Sottile Theater. The group strives to promote choral music awareness in the Lowcountry.
- Charleston Police Pipes and Drums
Representing the Charleston Police Department with an active roster of 39 members, this band performs at parades, public events, Scottish highland games, and funerals around the Southeast.
- Charleston Symphony Orchestra

- Charleston Symphony Orchestra Spiritual Ensemble
Sister organization of the CSO Gospel Choir, the Spiritual Ensemble is a multicultural group of singers performing African-American spirituals in traditional and modern arrangements around Charleston, SC.

- Southern Harmony Chorus

- Summerville Orchestra
