Six Mile, South Carolina

South Carolina Pickens County Six Mile Six Mile is located in western Pickens County.

Though no one knows for sure, Six Mile may get its name from the legendary ride by Indian Princess Isaqueena from Keowee Town to Ninety-Six in the 1700s.

It is said Isaqueena heard of a planned attack on settlers at Ninety-Six and rode there as fast as she could to warn them. She gaged her ride by the creeks she crossed. Six-Mile Creek and Eighteen-Mile Creek near Pendleton still bear names that reflect their distance from where Isaqueen started her ride.

The town of Six Mile is located on a path that was heavily used by traders in the 1800s. They may have been the ones to name the creek and the town, indicating the distance from what was then the Keowee River.

Clemson is the largest city in Pickens County. Here is a map of the Clemson area.
