Fort Mill, South Carolina

South Carolina York County Fort Mill Fort Mill is located in northeastern York County between US 77 and the Lancaster County line. The town was established in 1811 and took its name from a nearby grist mill and a Catawba Indian fort.

In 1865, toward the end of the Civil War, the last cabinet meeting of the Confederate government was held here when Jefferson Davis and members of his Cabinet passed through the area. Fort Mill's Confederate Park contains the nation's only monument to African-American slaves who fought on the Confederate side of the Civil War.
