About April's Edition

Spring has sprung – at last! – and South Carolina is the place to be. Here is SCIWAY's list of the "Top 6 Things to Do" this season. Enjoy!

#1) Win 50 Bucks

Today marks the start of SCIWAY'S second photo contest! This time we're awarding five prizes of $50 each – a prize for the most popular picture in these five categories: Allendale County, Calhoun County, Jasper County, Marion County, and Union County. Photos should show a cultural landmark, historic building, or natural scene – basically anything that represents that particular county.

The contestant who receives the most votes for each of these five counties will win $50. See complete contest rules. Entries are due Friday, April 16, at 5 PM. We'll announce the finalists in our next newsletter, due out April 21. Then it will be time for everyone in South Carolina to vote!
#2) Save a Life

There are more orphaned and injured animals in the spring than any other time of year. Learn what you can do to help if you find an animal who is hurt by visiting our SC Wildlife Rescue Guide. And remember to drive carefully – especially during dawn and dusk.

Also, learn how you can help homeless pets in South Carolina by visiting our guide to SC Pet Rescue Organizations. It links to our state's many shelters and breed-specific animal rescue groups, both of which offer great opportunities for rescuing a pet instead of buying one.
#3) Celebrate True Love

Did you know? South Carolina is one of the most popular places in world to get hitched! Charleston, which continuously ranks in the "Top 10" for destination weddings, leads the way, but there are plenty of lesser-known gems in our state. Visit our Guide to Planning Your SC Wedding to pick a place that's perfect for you and your bride or groom.

We link to churches, wedding chapels, reception sites, and much, much more – including wedding photographers, caterers, florists, bands, DJs, and limo services, just to name a few! Not only that, but our SC Accommodations Guide will help you plan a dream of a honeymoon.
#4) Pack Your Pooch

Set out across the state with your four-legged friend in tow! Our SC Dog-Friendly Travel Guide lists dog parks and their websites, regulations for taking your pets to SC beaches, pet-friendly B&B's, and plenty of helpful tips for traveling with your best friend.
#5) Study SC Candidates

Get your info straight from the horse's mouth! Major SC elections will be held in the fall, and it's never too soon to start learning about the candidates who will shape our futures. SCIWAY makes it easy with our SC Election Guide. We not only list hundreds of SC candidates, but we also link to their websites – so you can see for yourself what they stand for.

#6) Stop and Smell the Flowers

Last but not least, be on the lookout for our state flower, which is in bloom right now. Carolina Jasmine grows along fence posts and porch columns, and its smell is divine!

Carolina Jasmine was selected as our state flower in 1924, when it was honored by South Carolina's General Assembly for being "indigenous to every nook and corner of the State" and for being "the first premonitor of coming Spring."
