South Carolina Pickens County Liberty
Liberty is located in southcentral Pickens County between Central and Easley. Until after the Revolutionary War, the area was sparsely populated and primarily used as hunting land by the Cherokee.
Cotton mills came to Liberty in the early 1900s, providing employment and supporting municipal infrastructure such as electricity and water treatment. At the peak of production in the 1970s, there were 1,000 looms operating in Liberty mills. Liberty was a major manufacturer of oxford cloth, a popular fabric for shirts.
