Central, South Carolina
South Carolina Pickens County Arial
Central is located in the southwestern portion of Pickens County.
Its name came about when, in 1873, the Atlantic & Richmond Air-Line Railroad Company completed the connecting link between the northbound track from Atlanta and the southbound track from Charlotte. This central location became the logical place for the railroad to build repair shops and fueling stations. They named the depot "Central."
Clemson is the largest city near Central. Here is a map of the Clemson area.
