About Hilton Head, South Carolina
Hilton Head is a large barrier island located in
Beaufort County midway between
Charleston and Savannah, Georgia. Highway 278 will bring you onto the island, passing through the diverse ecosystem of
Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge just north of Hilton Head Island.
Isolated until the mid-20th century, electricity came to the island in 1950 and a two-lane swing bridge made the island accessible to cars in 1956. Today,
golfing and beautiful ocean spots like
Folly Field Beach and
Coligny Beach make the island a world-famous vacation destination. In addition, the
Harbour Town Lighthouse and nearby
ACE Basin Wildlife Refuge are popular attractions enjoyed in Hilton Head year-round.

good places to eat. Hilton Head's location on the Atlantic Oceans means there is ample
