Charleston Public Schools
- Charleston County School District
Charleston County School District is the second largest school system in South Carolina. It serves more than 48,000 students in 84 schools and several specialized programs. CCSD offers many types of school programs – including neighborhood schools, charter schools, magnet schools, IB (international baccalaureate) schools, and Montessori schools. With approximately 6,000 employees, the Charleston County School District is the fourth largest employer in the Charleston region.

Provides support for students in an effort prevent drop-out in Charleston County schools, CIS also operates the Septima P. Clark Corporate Academy, Charleston County's first alternative high school.

Daniel Island Private Schools
Downtown Charleston Private Schools
- Ashley Hall
Ashley Hall educates female students in Charleston in grades 2K-12; the school also serves boys in grades 2K-5K.
- Charleston Catholic School
This parochial school teaches Charleston students in grades of 4K-8.
- Charleston Day School
Charleston Day School accepts pupils in grades 1 through 8.
- First Baptist Church School
This parochial school serves students in grades 3K-12. Note that this school is currently based on Meeting Street in Downtown Charleston but will soon relocate to James Island.
- Mason Preparatory School
Commonly known as Mason Prep, this private school accepts Charleston students in grades 1-8.
- Meeting Street Academy
This private, college prep school serves students in grades 3K-5 whose famililes would not otherwise be able to afford private school. The academy also offers another private school in Spartanburg and a public school in North Charleston.
James Island Private Schools
Johns Island Private Schools
- Charleston Collegiate School
Charleston Collegiate School – formerly called Sea Island Academy – is the only private school on Johns Island. It accepts students in grades 4K-12.
McClellanville Private Schools
- Archibald Rutledge Academy
Based in the village of McClellanville, this private school serves Charleston-area students in grades 4K-12.
Mount Pleasant Private Schools
- Christ Our King Stella Maris School
This school offers a Christian curriculum and serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade 8.
- Coastal Christian Preparatory School
Located in Mount Pleasant's Old Village, Coastal Christian Prep is affiliated with First Baptist Church and accepts students in grades 2K-12.
- Montessori School of Mount Pleasant
Montessori of Mount Pleasant was established as a Montessori AMS School in 1987 and serves children ages 3-6.
- Palmetto Christian Academy
Palmetto Christian Academy is an accredited college preparatory school accepting students from pre-K through 12th grade.
- Sundrops Montessori School
This Montessori school has four campuses in the East Cooper area with programs serving children from 6 weeks to 12 years.
- Trident Academy
This accredited private school focuses on cognitively capable children diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, or Asperger-like attributes.
- University School of the Lowcountry
Teaching grades 3-12, this is a co-educational, non-sectarian, non-profit independent school.
North Charleston Private Schools
- Cathedral Academy
Cathedral Academy offers a Biblically-based, K-4 through grade 12 education; it is accredited by the South Carolina Independent School Association.
- Montessori Day School
Montessori Day School is a non-profit 501c3 corporation devoted to educating children using the Montessori method; it saves students from 18 months through 6 years.
- Northside Christian School
Affiliated with Northside Baptist Church, Northside Christian School offers a fundamental Biblical education through the 12th grade.
- Northwood Academy
This K-12 school strives to instill Christian values in its students.
- Saint John Catholic School
Saint John Catholic School welcomes children of all faiths and abilities in grades K4 through 8 who desire a Christian education.
West Ashley Private Schools
- Addlestone Hebrew Academy
This school provides both a general and Judaic education to students through the 8th grade.
- Charles Towne Montessori School
Charles Towne Montessori is South Carolina's only internationally-certified A.M.I. Montessori. It serves students ages 15 months through 12 years.
- Charleston Christian School
Charleston Christian School shares a campus with Church Creek Presbyterian Church. It is a K-8 school that adheres to a fundamentalist curriculm.
- The Cooper School
The Cooper School offers a K-5 curriculum that seeks to balances academic, physical, artistic, emotional, and spiritual endeavors.
- Porter-Gaud School
One of the oldest private schools in Charleston, Porter-Gaud serves students through the grade 12.
- Trinity Montessori
This is the only Christian-based Montessori school in Charleston and serves students 3 months to 12 years.
