SC Governor's Race
The governor of South Carolina is elected to serve a four-year term. The state constitution limits a person to holding the office to two consecutive terms but does not limit the total number of times the same person can be governor. The duties of the governor of South Carolina include submitting an executive budget and making sure the state's laws are enforced. He or she also acts as head of state and chief executive of the executive branch.
SC Lieutenant Governor's Races
The lieutenant governor of South Carolina is elected to a four-year term but does not currently run on the same ticket as the governor. However, the 2014 race was the last one of this kind. A constitution amendment adopted in 2012 requires the governor and lieutenant governor to run together effective 2018. The lieutenant governor also serves as the president of the SC Senate and takes on the position of governor if the sitting governor is not able to perform the office's duties.
