Ware Shoals, South Carolina
South Carolina Greenwood County Ware Shoals
Ware Shoals is located in the northern tip of Greenwood County on the banks of the Saluda River. Parts of town are also in Laurens County and in Abbeville County.
In the 1800s people would come to this place on the river to sit on the large rocks – or shoals – to picnic, fish, and just generally enjoy nature's beauty. In time, a Mr. Ware built a gristmill at the site so it became known as Ware's Shoals, and was eventually shortened to Ware Shoals.
In the tri-county area, Greenwood is the largest city near Ware Shoals. Here are maps of the the Greenwood area, the the Laurens area, and the the Abbeville area.
