Wagener, South Carolina

South Carolina Aiken County Wagener

This community was originally known as Pinder Town. Later settlers from North Carolina, many of which were named Gunter, led to the town being known as Gunter's Cross Roads or Guntersville. In 1888, the town was officially renamed Wagener to honor George Wagener whose efforts brought the railroad through town.

Wagener is located in the western part of Aiken County in the center of a triangle formed by the cities of Aiken, Orangeburg, and Columbia. Here are maps of the Aiken area, the Orangeburg area, and the Columbia area.
