Aiken County WagenerThis community was originally known as Pinder Town. Later settlers from North Carolina, many of which were named Gunter, led to the town being known as Gunter's Cross Roads or Guntersville. In 1888, the town was officially renamed Wagener to honor George Wagener whose efforts brought the railroad through town.
