Little River, South Carolina
South Carolina Horry County Little River
Traveling north on US 17 through Horry County, Little River is the last South Carolina town you pass through before crossing the state line. Situated on the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway, Indians called this "Mineola" and the English translation of Little River became its name.
In its early history, Little River hosted the famous and the infamous. As an out-of-the-way, protected harbor, pirates, smugglers, blockade-runners, and bootleggers are said to have found refuge here. But George Washington also dined here while traveling the Kings Highway on his Southern Tour in 1791.
Myrtle Beach is the largest city near Little River. Here is a map of the Myrtle Beach area.
