Little Mountain, South Carolina

South Carolina Newberry County Little Mountain

Little Mountain is located in the southeastern portion of Newberry County.

The name comes from its location on a unique geological formation known as a monadnock. This is an islolated mountain or rock that has resisted the process of erosion and stands alone in an otherwise flat area.

The town was originally known as Ruff Mountain and it was located in Lexington County. Records show the name of Little Mountain was used when a post office was established in 1852. The present boundary betweeen Newberry and Lexington counties was established in 1917.

Newberry is the largest city near Little Mountain. Here is a map of the Newberry area.
