South Carolina  Aiken County Burnettown
Burnettown is located in Aiken County on SC 421. In the 1920s, privately-owned taxis provided transportation to and from work for workers in several local mills along SC 421. At the time, laws stipulated that taxis could only stop in incorporated areas along the highway. This sparsely populated community between Langley and Bath, known simply as Mr. Burnette's land, incorporated as a town so that its residents could more easily catch a taxi to work.
