Piedmont Medical Center Trail – Rock Hill, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | York County Photos | Piedmont Medical Center Trail
This covered path beneath a Norfolk-Southern train trestle is part of the Piedmont Medical Center Trail in Rock Hill. Formerly called the Riverwalk Trail, the pathway winds two-and-a-half miles along the Catawba River and then joins the River Park Trail for an additional mile leading to the 70-acre River Park. The trail, which is not a loop, begins at Terrace Park and ending at the railroad tracks before connecting with the aforementioned extension to River Park.
The trail is part of the larger Carolina Thread Trail, a series of connected trails that span 15 counties in North Carolina and South Carolina. The trails are supported through both private donations and public funding. The Carolina Thread Trail opened in 2007 as a project that combined goals of land conservation with connecting people in different communities. Several trails that are not part of the Carolina Thread Trail system are now linked through Carolina Thread Trails.
Both cyclists and pedestrians are welcome on the 10-foot-wide Piedmont Medical Center Trail. Benches and trashcans line the trail, and restrooms are available at the trail head. Leashed pets are also invited to enjoy the trail.
