Spartanburg Buddhist Center of SC – Spartanburg, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Spartanburg County Photos | Spartanburg Buddhist Center of SC
This Buddhist temple and meditation center was founded in Spartanburg in 2010 by Cambodian-American Buddhists. The center incorporates Theravada Buddhist traditions, which focus on experiences and thoughtful analysis rather than pure faith. It is the oldest form of Buddhism practiced today and teaches the Four Noble Truths: the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and truth of the path that ends suffering. Daily chanting and meditation take place each day at 5 AM and 8 PM. The center also teaches lessons about Southeast Asian culture and hosts discussions on Thursdays at 6 PM.
