Silverstreet Lutheran Church – Silverstreet, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Newberry County Photos | Silverstreet Lutheran Church
This congregation in the Silverstreet community of Newberry County formed in 1908 with 25 charter members. However, as early as 1872 area Lutherans were congregating in a local school house for worship. Once the church was officially chartered 36 years later, a church was built to house the group in 1909.
Silverstreet Lutheran Church was initially led by supply pastors from neighboring Newberry College until the church became independent in 1919. The first building was replaced with the present edifice in 1951. An organ was installed in 1970.
