Noble Cemetery – Willington, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | McCormick County Photos | Noble Cemetery
This walled family cemetery in Willington is the resting place of former South Carolina governor Patrick Noble and his family. Noble, a graduate of the esteemed Willington Academy, first entered public service as a member of the South Carolina legislature from 1814 through 1824 and again from 1832 until 1836. He then served in the state senate from 1836 until 1838, when he became governor. Noble died in office on April 7, 1840.
The family cemetery was established at the Nobles’ former home, Oak Hill Plantation. At the time, the property was in Abbeville District (now called Abbeville County).
