Old Midway Diner – Marion, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Marion County Photos | Old Midway Diner
The old abandoned Midway Diner sign still stands in the Pee Dee community in Marion County near the split in SC 301 and US 76. About seven miles west of the city of Marion, it is approximately “midway” between Florence and Marion.
SCIWAY thanks to Gregg Turbeville for sending in this great picture. Gregg muses, “This sign has greeted tourists for years as they head into the vacation resort of Myrtle Beach, but with its faded color and overgrown branches, how many have noticed it?”

Regarding the MIDWAY DINER sign in Pee Dee: The origin of the name is that Pee Dee is approximately midway from New York to Miami, not Marion to Florence. This is the story I heard from my dad and others when I was a little kid in the 60s. Midway was built when US 301 was the road virtually all North/South travelers used – it was the I-95 of its day.
