This popular state park in Upstate South Carolina has offered respite for lovers of the outdoors since the 1930s. Chester State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and offers visitors a 1.3-mile nature trail, 18-hole and 9-hole tournament-grade disc golf courses, campsites, and a 160-acre lake.
Boating at Chester State Park is limited to man-powered boats and electric trolling motors. Non-motorized boats are available for rent to those who wish to cast a line or just paddle around the lake, birdwatching and observing wildlife along its forested banks. A fishing pier is available to those who would rather stay on terra firma while catching bass, bream, crappie, and catfish.
Geocaching is also allowed, with several geocaches located within the park. Feel free to bring along your favorite four-legged friend! Dogs are welcomed in Chester State Park, though they need to be leashed.
Reflections on Chester State Park
Contributor Jarrett Hawkins says about capturing the above photos, “I’m a member of Ducks Unlimited, and I was at the park with other members putting up new duck boxes.”
