Shem Creek Park – Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Charleston County Photos | Shem Creek Park
Shem Creek Park in Mount Pleasant opened to the public in October of 2011 and boasts a 2,200-foot-long boardwalk stretching from just beyond the Shem Creek bridge on Coleman Boulevard to the mouth of the Charleston Harbor. Visitors can fish from commercial docks along the boardwalk or just enjoy the pristine views from within the creek. The park is not just a recreational amenity but also an educational one, as nearby Moultrie Middle School utilizes the park for hands-on learning.
On August 24, 2016 the city opened an additional 1,500-foot-long section of boardwalk that connects to the original, providing spectacular birding opportunities. A third phase is planned for the future and will incliude a pedestrian bridge over Shem Creek, crossing at Coleman Boulevard. Public restrooms are available at the boardwalk, and people can access the park by car or boat. A popular fishing spot, the park is opened from 5:00 AM until midnight.
