"SC Swimming Hole" Photo Contest Winner!
Melanie Thomas of Johns Island won the $100 prize in our "SC Swimming Holes" contest with her beautiful photograph of Beachwalker Park. She received 605 of 1676 votes – over 35%!
Melanie describes the winning scene: "On this particular evening I had rushed home after working at the Hollings Cancer Center, and hurried to the beach to catch the last minutes of daylight. The tides were extremely high this week due to the new moon. This beautiful view of the Kiawah River from Beachwalker Park forced me to slow down, focus on the moment, and appreciate my good fortune to be living in the SC Lowcountry.."
Beachwalker Park provides the only public access to Kiawah Island – at least by land. Its 11 miles of pristine, open beach offers unparalleled views. The park's many amenities – including restrooms, lifeguards, outdoor showers, and a seasonal snack bar – make it a great place for picnics, sunbathing, and of course swimming!
We very much appreciate all the wonderful entries we received from our readers. We also appreciate everyone who took the time to vote in our contest. We hope to have another South Carolina photo contest soon. If you have ideas for a good theme, please send us a quick email at service@sciway.net.
