1. Bon Voyage: Virtual Tours of SC

It'll be springtime in South Carolina soon – and that means it's almost time to pack up your parka, lock your coat in the closet, find your flipflops, and step outside again!

Spring is the perfect season for walking, whether it's an evening stroll around your own hometown or a day-long adventure in a new and exciting place. After all, the farthest two points in SC are only about five hours apart, which makes for plenty of good options when it comes to a weekend getaway.

To help you plan your travels, we've compiled a directory of online walking tours from all over our state. By visiting SCIWAY's new Virtual Tour Guide, you can sample some of what our interesting cities and towns have to offer. These guides were created by historians, librarians, teachers, and tourism officials from all over SC, and they contain pictures, maps, slideshows, and interactive tools to make learning more fun.

These virtual tour websites are also great resources for South Carolina students – and all of us who enjoy daydreaming. So check them out, even if you're going to be chained to your chair all spring and summer.

As always, if you know of a resource we've forgotten, please send a quick note to news@sciway.net. We'll be happy to add it. Enjoy the new guide – and bon voyage!

3. New SC Statewide Maps

Last month we featured our latest addition to SCIWAY's map section – new overview maps of all 46 SC counties.

Because of the enthusiastic response we received from many of you, we are now creating new statewide maps. These maps will be useful to people who live in South Carolina as well as to those who want to visit us. They are part of our ongoing effort to publish informative, easy-to-use SC web resources.

So far, we have created three new statewide maps:

Here are some other SC maps we have on the drawing board: National Parks and Forests, Congressional Districts, and Statewide Geological Zones.

Of course, we always value input from our readers. If you think of an idea for a South Carolina map that would be helpful to you, just let us know. Thanks!

4. SC Picture Project Update

The numerous photographs we've received from many of you show how much South Carolinians appreciate our state's beauty. In fact we were so impressed with your photos that we have decided to make the SC Picture Project a permanent part of this newsletter.

Each month we will link to the recent additions to the South Carolina Picture Project. We will also feature one of the photos we've received during the past month. Perhaps yours will be next ....

February's SC Photo of the Month captures the quiet beauty of Page's Millpond in Lake View. Lake View is a small South Carolina community located about 15 miles southeast of Dillon, just below the North Carolina border.

This photograph was taken by Joan Beth Page of Lake View. Thank you, Joan Beth!

6. Especially for South Carolina Teachers

One of our most important goals is to make SCIway more useful to South Carolina teachers and their students.

If you are a teacher, please tell us what SC-related resources you would like us to add to SCIway. Articles, photos, maps, charts, graphs, audio, video – anything that would help your students.

Please send your suggestions to news@sciway.net. We will use them in planning new projects for the remainder of this year. Thanks!
