Reflections on the Salters Depot
Contributor Linda Brown shares, “It was built in the 1850s at the time the railroad came to Williamsburg County and served Salters for approximately 100 years. Salters was, of course, known for many years as Salters Depot or Salters Station. The late Charlie Walker, radio personality and columnist for the Kingstree News, never called Salters anything but Salters Depot, although he pronounced the last syllable of “Depot” as you would a cooking utensil.”
