I am a descendant of slaves of your father’s plantations. My forefathers and mothers were of the Titus family, plus there are some family members who carry the Witherspoon name and some carry the McClary name. Our records show that Witherspoon was the Witherspoon Colony. It would be nice to have contact and learn more of your forefathers as we continue to put the pieces together of ours as slaves.

I am also a descendant of John Witherspoon. My Grandmother is a 5th great granddaughter (maiden name McClary). Her 86th birthday is in July. She has always wanted to go to Kingstree and my mom and I are interested in taking her this summer with Thorntree being one of the sites of interest. Any info you may have on Thorntree or Witherspoon/McClary sites would be much appreciated.

I am a 6th great grandson of John Witherspoon, one of Gavin’s older brothers. John and Gavin were both sons of James the builder of the house. I would certainly be interested in knowing more about the photograph. Not sure how this site sends messages.

I am looking for descendants of the Witherspoon family particularly Gavin Witherspoon. I came across a framed photo of this house with writing on the back from a family member. It is an old photo and was someone’s important family memento. It was professionally framed in Charleston S.C.
