Rockville – South Carolina

South Carolina  |  SC Picture Project  |  Rockville
Rockville is located in Charleston County at the end of SC 700 – also called Maybank Highway – which runs from James Island, through Johns Island, and finally through Wadmalaw Island. Rockville is located at the tip of Wadmalaw but has its own municipality. (The rest of Wadmalaw is unincorporated.) The Village of Rockville, as it is formally known, sits on a stretch of Bohicket Creek where the current is unusually strong. Legend has it that Indian tribes raced their canoes here. Today, not surprisingly, Rockville is be best known for an annual sailing regatta which has taken place the first weekend of August since at least 1890.
