Isle of Palms Pier

The Isle of Palms is located in Charleston County, just across the Intracoastal Waterway from Mount Pleasant and just north Sullivan’s Island. The pier (which is private) is a great place to fish or catch a nice beach sunset.

Palmetto Tree and Crescent Moon

This picture of the moon rising over palmetto trees is evocative of the South Carolina state flag. It was taken by Rodger Painter of Gaffney South Carolina on the Isle of Palms in August 2006. Rodger describes taking this beautiful picture: “I was walking at dusk to the beach behind my hotel at the Isle of Palms, when I noticed the crescent moon beyond the palmetto trees. The scene struck me as being reminiscent of the image on our state flag. I had just enough time to shoot the photo hand-held with my Sony Cybershot as passing clouds and darkness intervened.”
