The pier (which is private) is a great place to fish or catch a nice beach sunset.

It was taken by Rodger Painter of Gaffney South Carolina on the Isle of Palms in August 2006. Rodger describes taking this beautiful picture: “I was walking at dusk to the beach behind my hotel at the Isle of Palms, when I noticed the crescent moon beyond the palmetto trees. The scene struck me as being reminiscent of the image on our state flag. I had just enough time to shoot the photo hand-held with my Sony Cybershot as passing clouds and darkness intervened.”
