Balloons Over Anderson

The Balloons over Anderson Festival is a three day hot-air balloon festival at the civic center in Anderson which takes place each year in November. Over 80 hot air balloons float into the air creating a spectacular site.

Vincent Flores says that “it was wonderful to see those balloons in different colors when they are inflated. Can’t wait to see the event again.”

Glenn Brill of Anderson says that “Anderson has gained a reputation as a hot air ballooning mecca in the Southeast. My photo was taken during the Balloon Federation of America’s U.S. Hot Air Balloon Championships in 2005. The balloonists were lifting off to navigate their balloons to a target drop, where they would have to try and toss their bean bag onto an “X” on the ground.”

Two Trees and Fog

David Waldrop of Pelzer took this shot of a pair of trees basking in fog on SC 8, somewhere in Anderson County. He writes, “I watch this group of trees and have photographed them from different vantage points in each of the seasons.”

Anderson Town Clock

This photo of the old Anderson County courthouse also features the town’s clock. The photos on this page were submitted by Angelia Lynn Floyd of Anderson. The 1898 building has given way to a more modern courthouse, which is right across the street.

Angelia writes: “This is the front of the Anderson County courthouse built in 1898. It also contains the town clock, on the bell tower. The clock face and bell are the same ones used in the first courthouse. The bell is dated 1856.”
