Sumter County Courthouse – Sumter, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Sumter County Photos | Sumter County Courthouse
The Sumter County Courthouse is located at 141 North Main Street in downtown Sumter. It is one of nine courthouses designed by famed 20th century architect William Augustus Edwards.

The building was constructed in 1907 and is a classic “I-plan” courthouse, which means it is set back from the street and runs the entirety of a block. This style was popular for courthouses during this time because of its grandeur.
SCIWAY thanks Stephen Brenton of Ladson for this great picture taken in 2012. For more information on the Sumter County Courthouse, see its listing in the National Historic Register.
