Although Travis made numerous pleas for help, the only reinforcements he received were from Gonzales, which enlisted 32 brave men to come to the aid of the besieged Alamo.
A memorial plaque has been erected on the grounds of the Alamo and it reads: “Erected in grateful recognition of the supreme act of heroism of the thirty two men form Gonzales who gave their lives in the Alamo in response to the appeal of Travis.”
