The recognizable facade of the Alamo stands guard over one of our country’s most hallowed sites. The patriotism and sacrifice of the Alamo soldiers occupies a special place in the history of the United States. Seven South Carolinians were amongst the defenders, most notably co-commander William Travis and his cousin James Bonham. Both played key roles in the defense of the Alamo.
The other five SC natives were Lemuel Crawford, George Neggan, Edward Nelson, George Nelson, and Cleveland Kinloch Simmons.
