Veterans Memorial Park – Orangeburg, South Carolina

South Carolina  |  SC Picture Project  |  Orangeburg County Photos  |  Veterans Memorial Park

This monument at Edisto Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg memorializes all those who have served in the military from South Carolina. Located at the site of a confrontation between the Confederate and Union armies that took place in 1865, Edisto Memorial Gardens began in the 1920s as azalea beds and a children’s playground on five acres of land.

The garden now encompasses 175 acres and showcases azaleas, camellias, roses, and centuries-old cypress trees. Special features include a butterfly garden, a sensory garden, and a wetlands park. The Veterans Memorial Park, dedicated on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2009, is the most recent addition to this ever-evolving urban garden.

I am a vet who wants to know about future events that I can participate in. Please, anyone who knows of future events, send information to web sites.

Correction. We found a rally in Columbia, SC, closer to home, at the Veterans Memorial Park in Columbia Hampton street.

We are planning to drive over two hours to participate in Orangeburg rally. We truly wanted to come and show our support to our Vets. They carried our burden, we need to carry theirs now. After the last comment by SCIWAY. Now I am wondering? Is anybody else going? Was it moved somewhere else in SC?

Also, it says on the vetmarch.com site, that the local sites should gather at 9AM as well. Here is an excerpt: “Join fellow veterans at the war memorials in Washington DC on Sunday October 13th at 9 AM or local marches in your area at 9AM EST/8AM CST/7AM MST/6AM PST. These memorials belong to the American veterans and people! – See more at: VetMarch.com”

The address is right at the top of this page under the picture for those who are looking for it. The Vets in DC are NOT asking for permission to be there, why is anyone waiting for permission here or anywhere else? No doubt everyone who attends will be orderly and respectful. Please, everyone who attends, bring some sort of recording device, such as a smartphone or video camera. I think it’s criminal what lawmakers are doing to this country and the disrespect against all those who serve is unforgivable.

Before this came out, I saw the same thing, but for a meeting at the Vet Memorial in Columbia on 13 Oct at 1400!

Hello, everyone! Thank you for all of your comments. We have contacted the city of Orangeburg to try to find official information for those of you who have inquired about an upcoming march, but no one had any information on such an event. One administrator put us in touch with the Office of Veterans’ Affairs, and they had no official information, either. To date, no permits have been requested for any events at the memorial site on October 13, 2013. I hope this helps.

Is there a specific program, or do we just show up at 9 a.m. at the memorial? Thanks for what you do!

Is there going to be a rally there Sunday the 13th? It’s a good drive for us, but we’ll be there if so!

What time on the 13th? Is the demo here or at the Vet Memorial in Columbia?

I also want to know whether there will be a march or not? If so, from where to where? Same time as DC?

I will not be available Oct 13. I will be in D.C. on the 14th, and I will go to the Memorial and stand with anyone who will be there.
