St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located on Main Street in Walhalla, was originally established in 1853. Construction of the building began in 1859 and was completed in early 1861, just at the beginning of the Civil War. The four posts supporting the corners of the steeple are approximately 60 feet in length and over 14 inches square.
