I'm a SC native born in a small cotton mill village in Spartanburg County. I have fished every lake in this state and nothing holds a candle to the fishing at Lake Thurmond. My family and I always launch our boat at Plum Branch and the scenic views with the cool, greenish water are beautiful. I can bring my little ones like my father did for me and his father did for him. We love to fish for Crappie -- every trip we do well, but what we like most is being anchored out for 5-6 hours and not even seeing another boat. I'm glad that there are still places like Lake Thurmond in this state.

I have such great memories of the lake as a child -- my daddy and my grandpa coming back from a fishing trip and all those Crappie in the cooler sittin' in that little 14-foot aluminum boat. We would clean fish and smile, then my mama would fry 'em up with fries, hushpuppies, and slaw. What great times they were and still are with a new generation! I hope in the future that Lake Thurmond will be a place with little development along the shoreline, so the next generation can enjoy the natural beauty that I have enjoyed.
