Central United Methodist Church – Brittons Neck, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Marion County Photos | Central United Methodist Church
This Greek Revival-style church in the rural community of Brittons Neck in Marion County holds the distinction of being the oldest church in the county. The church was established and built in 1735 as All Saints Episcopal Church. However, after the Revolutionary War it became a Methodist church. In 1780 the church was moved near the Old Neck Cemetery and started going by the name of Old Neck Methodist. The building was dismantled and rebuilt in its current location in 1917.
The year when the church adopted its current name of Central United Methodist Church is unclear, though it was sometime after the final move. It also was referred to as Brittons Neck Methodist Church. The congregation remains active.
