Built in 1790, the Boykin Mill is a classic grist mill. It continues milling corn into grits and cornmeal to this day, using water power from the Boykin Mill Pond.

As this local mill played a key role in the agricultural character of the region, it served as the focal point of the community, spurring the establishment of a nearby general store, post office, cotton gin, church, and tavern.
