Myrtle Beach – Horry County, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Horry County Photos | Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is located at the northern coast of South Carolina and is the heart of the Grand Strand region, which stretches from the North Carolina border down to Georgetown. In addition to 60 miles of beaches, this bustling city has many attractions, golf courses, and restaurants.
The Grand Strand is an area of coastal towns in Horry County and Georgetown County. In 1954, Hurricane Hazel devastated our state’s coast, and as a result many buildings and trees were leveled along the Grand Strand. During the 1960s, Myrtle Beach began rebuilding, focusing mainly on constructing the golf resorts, beachfront hotels, and entertainment venues which it is now famous for today.
SCIWAY visitor Kat Harris says that the “early morning before the beach is filled with tourist and locals is the only time the hotels are silent, and the beach is peaceful.”
