We do know the correct pronunciation of &#039;Horry&#039; however, I can see that our way of phonetically spelling it was confusing. Your spelling of &quot;Oree&quot; hopefully will convey much better to those who don&#039;t know how to pronounce Horry County.]]></description>

General Peter Horry served under General Francis Marion during the &#039;War for American Independence,&#039; AKA &#039;The Revolutionary War.&#039;  

If it were not for the SC, NC, GA, and TN patriots, who ran Cornwallis out of the South, Washington would have not been able to bottle him up at Yorktown.
