Pawleys Creek – Pawleys Island, South Carolina

South Carolina  |  SC Picture Project  |  Georgetown County Photos  |  Pawleys Creek

Pawleys Island is a coastal community located between Myrtle Beach and Georgetown. Pawleys residents are known for their laid-back lifestyle, which includes a knack for kicking back on one of those famous Pawleys Island hammocks. The island is often described – with pride – as “arrogantly shabby.”

Photographer Rebecca Ceron Martin describes her favorite way to spend a day:

“There is a lovely pastime that one can do at Pawleys Island any time of the year! It’s called a ‘creek crawl.’

“A creek crawl is when you either float yourself (on inner tubes or such – usually only in warm weather) or take a little boat up the creek on a full rising tide. The object is to just let go, let loose, and let the tide carry you and your cares up the creek, enjoying the magnificent scenery and birds along the way!”

I have been searching for history of summer homes along Pawleys Creek. A friend lives on Logan Court and believes a plantation used to reside on the banks of the creek on her property. I can see walkways by the pond and many very old solid bricks are buried in the sand. Anyone have information? It is located about 6 houses south of northern causeway along the creek.
