This example of a gate or hitching post has been carved from the oft-referenced “silk of the trade” – Winnsboro Blue Granite. It is found along the Walking Tour of Historic Ridgeway in Fairfield County.

I have the same stone that was reclaimed from an old farm in Connecticut, the difference is that my stone was split with flat wedges instead of round wedges… The overall shapes of the 2 stones are almost the exact same..
