Inside the artist’s studio at Old Edgefield Pottery, visitors can view works in progress as well as a collection of priceless ceramic antiquities.
Shelves line one entire wall of Old Edgefield Pottery. Here, resident potter Stephen Ferrell displays a portion of the collection he accumulated with his father, Terry. These highly sought-after pitchers, pots, and jugs were made by slave potters in the Edgefield area of South Carolina, using materials and techniques unique to the area.

I love how these pots look Steve! How much does one of your pots sell for? I am just wondering.

Hi Chere! I just wanted to let you know that SCIWAY is a private website about South Carolina, and that we don’t have any affiliation with Steve Ferrell or Old Edgefield Pottery. SCIWAY was fortunate to be able to visit with Steven Ferrell a couple of years ago, and we took these pictures and wrote this article about our visit. The best way to find out the answer to your question would be to call them at (803) 637-0387. Hope this helps! – SCIWAY

I have several unsigned dave pottery jugs. I have had them authenticated by several experts but they are unsure of the price, I keep getting different answers. I saw in your picture two of the jugs I have. How can I found out the value?

Hi Chris. We are not sure here at SCIWAY about the signature. Dave is definitely the expert! The most recent contact information we have for Old Edgefield Pottery is 230 Simpkins St – Edgefield, SC 29824 -

I’m wondering if there are any known works of Dave the Slave in which he signed the Lewis Miles “LM” initials in large cursive letters…on the “bottom” of a pot? Thanks.
