The Potters Alley entrance to Old Edgefield Pottery welcomes visitors to come inside and learn about this traditional art form. The building once housed the town mercantile. It was constructed shortly after a fire destroyed the original mercantile building. Its outer walls are covered in corrugated metal in order to protect it from future fires. This aspect makes it a perfect home for a potter, whose kiln can reach temperatures in the thousands of degrees.
