This jar was created at The Thomas Chandler Factory in Edgefield District, as is evidenced by the stamp reading “Chandler Maker.” The facility was only in operation for ten years, but produced numerous pieces of great quality. Different manufacturers commonly stamped their pieces with the name of the facility.
The Collin Rhodes Factory was another famous factory that operated in the mid 1800s. The factory made pottery that was intricately decorated with white slip made from the kaolin that is so plentiful to the Edgefield area.
