Dorchester County was formed in 1897 from land parceled by Colleton and Berkeley Counties. This courthouse sits in the county seat of St. George, and though built in 1964, is now referred to as the “old” courthouse. The new courthouse was dedicated in 2011, and this building is currently used as part of the county’s detention center complex.
