Barfield House – Cheraw, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Chesterfield County Photos | Barfield House
This modern-looking home in historic Cheraw was built around 1860 by a local contractor named of Barfield. Though it may be hard to distinguish since the home was updated with the front addition in 1893, Barfield originally built his home in the style of a Charleston single house. A single house typically refers to a home that is one-room-wide with the gable end facing the street and an entrance door attached to the covered porch, or piazza.
Another interesting feature of the home is that many of the windows contain pale green hand-blown glass. Many thanks to David Sides, Cheraw Director of Tourism and Community Development, for this photo and the information.
