This picture, entitled Cherokee Sunset, shows the sun setting over Cherokee County, which is located in the northern part of the state, nestled between Spartanburg, York County and Union County. This photograph was taken by Rodger Painter of Gaffney in October of 2006.

Rodger describes his picture: “Sunrises and sunsets traditionally are favorite subjects for photographers. I couldn’t pass up this Cherokee County sunset with its beautiful colors, wispy clouds and thin crescent moon showing off above a darkened Autumn tree line. It’s what Carolina sunsets are all about.”
