Battle of Cowpens – Cowpens, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Cherokee County Photos | Battle of Cowpens
The Battle of Cowpens was a Revolutionary War battle fought in our upstate region near the city of Gaffney in Cherokee County. Fought on January 17, 1781, it saw the overwhelming victory by the American forces and is often said to have been the turning point in driving the English from South Carolina.
Photographer Rodger Painter was present at the 226th Anniversary Celebration of the battle, which took place January 13-14, 2007 at the Cowpens National Battlefield. He shares with us some delightful pictures of the reenactment, all taken on the 13th of January in 2007.
