Stella Maris Catholic Church – Sullivan's Island, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Charleston County Photos | Stella Maris Catholic Church
Stella Maris is a Roman Catholic church located near the southwestern tip of Sullivan’s Island, close to Fort Moultrie.
SCIWAY thanks Matthew Bowen of St George, who took the photo above in March of 2007. He writes, “My wife and I love Sullivan’s Island and I fell in love with the architecture of this church. It was established in 1845 and built between the years of 1869 and 1873.”
SCIWAY also thanks frequent contributor Andy Hunter, who has been a longtime friend of SCIWAY’s. Andy took these two photos in 2013 and shares this interesting story, “This structure is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside, and the parish priest was gracious in allowing me to take this shot. He was closing up after having practice for an upcoming confirmation service. Stella Maris is especially beautiful at dusk.”

Matthew, This is also one of the most architecturally captivating churches for me. I notice the photo is copyrighted but I pinned it. Is that OK?
