Boone Hall Commissary – Charleston, South Carolina
South Carolina | SC Picture Project | Charleston County Photos | Boone Hall Commissary
This building, located at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, is thought to have been a commissary where workers from the 1800s went to receive their pay and buy supplies. The old commissary has now been modernized and transformed into bathrooms for the convenience of the thousands of people who visit Boone Hall Plantation each year.

The plantation has a long and interesting history, which became accessible to the public in 1956 when the McRae family bought it and began giving tours. Many festivals and events are held here throughout the year, and some of the most popular are weddings, Halloween Fright Night, Plantation Christmas, the Taste of Charleston festival, and the world’s largest oyster roast in January!
Special thanks to Cathy Hunnicutt of Daniel Island, who took this picture in October 2009.

Hi Susan! There’s a lot going on in the Charleston area in late October, namely the Fall Tour of Homes & Gardens. Check out our October Calendar of Events to find out more:

Are there any festivals happening towards the end of October 2011? A couple of my friends and I will be vacationing in the Charleston area during that time, and I guess we will have just missed the Taste of Charleston this year. Is there anything else you know of? Thanks!
