This house is located off of Highway 17 between Awendaw and Mount Pleasant.
Even though this particular house is abandoned, it reminds us that approximately 12 percent of the population in rural Awendaw live below the poverty line. (Read more about SC poverty statistics.)
The median price of homes has grown considerably since 2003, when the average price was around $180,000. Between 2005 and 2008, the median price saw highs of $300,000, $600,000, and even a spike in the third quarter of 2004 of $930,000. (See more data about Awendaw.)
A public water system is currently being built but is at the center of intense controversy among Awendaw residents. Some citizens want access to clean, affordable water. Others fear that easier access to water will make their rural town more inviting to developers.
Some say the new development will bring great amenities. Others think that it will ruin the town’s rustic charm, while driving current residents from their homes who can’t afford rising property taxes.

Hi Cindy! This house is located directly off of Highway 17 heading towards Awendaw from Mount Pleasant. It is in between these two cities, and it will be on the right side of the road. Hope this helps! – SCIWAY

My great-grandparents Arthur & Anna C Hodge lived in Awendaw in the 1890 – not sure what date they started living there. I would like to know if this house could of once been theirs or any of the other Hodge family members.
